(astrophysics), 1966 from Indiana University; a M.A. (astrophysics), 1968 from the University of Virginia; and a Ph.D. (astronomy), 1971, also from the University of Virginia.〔(Catharine Garmany's profile ), National Optical Astronomy Observatory〕 As of 2013, she works at the National Optical Astronomy Observatory.〔 Catharine's main areas of research are massive stars, evolution and formation; astronomical education 〔 She was a board member of the Astronomical Society of the Pacific from 1998 to 2001, and then the vice president from 2001 to 2003.〔(Astronomical Society of the Pacific )〕 She is most recognised in association with her work on star formation.
